A low sex drive or libido is just one of the many undesirable symptoms of a #dopamine deficiency. The general effect that dopamine has on libido is through its effect on the central nervous system; however, there is more to the story.
Dopamine actually inhibits the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, which is the rate limiting enzyme that turns tryptophan into #serotonin. This is actually one of the main mechanisms of dopamine agonists and the resulting increase in libido. Serotonin, through its anti-metabolic effects greatly diminishes the synthesis of androgens or sex steroids.
Thereby, inhibiting this enzyme to simultaneous boost dopamine and lower serotonin may be a systematic way to restore #libido.
