In order to change 1/9 to decimal form we need to divide 1 by 9. We know that since 1 is smaller than 9 we are going to end up with a number less than 1.
We can divide 1/9 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 1 by 9, we get 0.1 (the 1 repeats).
So: 1/9 = 0.11...
0.11... is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable.
Note that 1/9 and 0.11... represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 1/9 is a fraction and 0.11... is in decimal form.
