Google Docs provides two different ways to adjust margins. You can click File and select Page setup, then use the dialog box to adjust them, or you can click and drag the margin markers on the ruler.
If you'd like to change the margins for all new documents that you create, you can to the Page setup dialog box to adjust the margins, then click "Set as default".
