In order to change 4/7 to decimal form we need to divide 4 by 7. We know that since 4 is smaller than 7 we are going to end up with a number less than 1. We can divide 4/7 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 4 by 7, we get 0.57142857142857. Let's round this to 0.571. So: 4/7 = 0.571 0.571 is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable. You could also multiply your answer by the denominator and you should get the numerator. In this case 0.57142857142857 x 7 = 4 (or very, very close). Note that 4/7 and 0.571represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 4/7 is a fraction and 0.57142857142857 (keeps going) is in decimal form.
