Hi, everyone! Welcome back to another lesson here at ForB English. I'm Gabriella and in today's lesson, we're looking at this expression. Play it by ear. What does this mean? Do you know? We'll have a look at an example conversation.
Person A says, "I'm so worried. The company I interviewed with didn't contact me yet." Person B replies, "Don't worry so much! Just play it by ear." So what do you think this expression means? Well, it means just "see what happens." So don't worry so much about the future. Let it go for now and just wait and see what happens.
So let's practice this phrase together. Please repeat after me twice. Play it by ear. Good. One more time. Play it by ear. OK. Now let's use it in the example conversation. I will be A and you will be B. Are you ready? I'm so worried. The company I interviewed with didn't contact me yet. OK. Good. So you should have said "Don't worry so much. Just play it by ear."
