In order to change 1/12 to decimal form we need to divide 1 by 12. We know that since 1 is smaller than 12 we are going to end up with a number less than 1. We can divide 1/12 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 1 by 12, we get 0.0833 (3 keeps repeating). So: 1/12 = 0.0833 (3 keeps repeating) 0.0833 (3 keeps repeating) is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable. You could also multiply your answer by the denominator and you should get the numerator. In this case 0.0833 (3 keeps repeating) x 12 = 1. Note that 1/12 and 0.0833 (3 keeps repeating) represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 1/12 is a fraction and 0.0833 (3 keeps repeating) is in decimal form.
