In this video we discuss how to calculate the volume of a cube or box. We go through the formula for the volume of a cube and do a couple of example problems. Transcript/notes The formula for calculating the volume of a cube is length times width times height. So, the volume equals l times w times h. From this diagram we have 7 centimeters times 7cm times 7cm, which is 343cm cubed, because there are 3cm in the multiplication. As you can see, because this shape is a cube, all of the measurements are the same, so an alternative way to write the formula would be a cubed, and 7cm cubed, or 7 raised to the 3 is 343cm cubed. Here are a couple of more examples on the screen for you.
