XB-1, the world’s first independently developed supersonic jet, flew for the first time at the Mojave Air & Space Port in Mojave, California last Friday. Chief Test Pilot Bill “Doc” Shoemaker was at the controls when XB-1 took flight, and Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg monitored XB-1 in a T-38 chase plane. Here, you can see the view from the chase plane, which focused on how XB-1 flew and landed, including assessments of the aircraft’s handling qualities, airspeed, and its stability in the landing attitude (at a high angle of attack).
