Hi students! Welcome to another word of the day lesson, and today’s verb is reciprocate. It’s four syllables, with the emphasis on the second one – re-CIP-ro-cate. To reciprocate means to give something or feel something in return.
Let’s say there’s a man who falls in love with a woman, but she doesn’t reciprocate – meaning she doesn’t return the feelings of love, she doesn’t feel the same thing for him.
Or maybe my friend does me a favor, my friend helps me move some heavy furniture into my new apartment. Then, I would reciprocate, I’d return the favor, when I have the chance – maybe I’d later help the friend paint her house. My friend did me a favor, and I am giving her a favor in return, I’m reciprocating.
Try writing a sentence about a time when you’ve reciprocated, or someone else has reciprocated towards you. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in tomorrow’s video!
