Wow! A pod of more than 60 orcas was spotted in California’s Monterey Bay for the first time since 2021. These North Pacific offshore orcas live in deep waters far away from coastlines, making them a rare sight. “This ecotype is very different from the killer whales we see most often in Monterey Bay, the mammal hunters or ‘transient’ (Bigg’s) type,” said Evan Brodsky of Monterey Bay Whale Watch, who took captured the moment.
