Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano began the eighth episode of the ongoing eruption at the Halemaumau crater on Monday, February 3, continuing into Tuesday evening. Footage captured by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) shows lava fountains at the Halemaumau crater. The volcano was shooting lava over 250 feet into the air, according to the USGS’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. “Fountains from the north vent have grown from 50 feet (15 meters) to over 250 feet (76 meters) high in an hour and are feeding multiple lava streams,” the observatory said. “Active lava flows now cover approximately 15 to 20 percent of the crater floor.” Get the East Tennessee news you need every day here: WVLT Online: WVLT on Facebook: WVLT on Instagram: WVLT on Twitter: Get the WVLT News App: On iOS: On Android: Copyright 2023 WVLT.
