Poppies is a poem about war and loss, written by Jane Weir. It focuses on the experience of a mother whose child is growing up and potentially leaves to fight in a war - though many of the details are ambiguous including the age and experience of her son.
The poem features in AQA's GCSE literature power and conflict series; this reading could be used as an introduction for students studying it at GCSE or as a short revision recap to help gain an understanding and overview of the poem's message and meaning.
