The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, commissioned in 2001, is the flagship of the French Navy. Built at a cost of 3 billion euros, it is France's tenth aircraft carrier, first nuclear-powered surface vessel, and the only nuclear carrier constructed outside the US Navy.
