After a video emerged last week where Omar saved a ball from going into the stands, then looking directly at the people who it was headed towards, he has become the biggest meme on the internet. The video came with the slogan, ‘you ladies alright’, which combined with the look, is what really allowed the meme to take off. There are tiktoks with millions of likes, that feature Omar in different situations, saving people from various things. I even saw him take on Thanos. The situation even got crazy enough to spark a rumor online that Omar had sadly passed away, which he has since debunked online with a video that came out today. Where he simply said, I am very much alive. And his reach has gone well beyond the basketball community, and has become very mainstream. At time of writing, Omar’s TikTok account, which only has the video stating he is still alive, has over half a million followers. That all came within 8 hours.
