What's the difference between a C2 (sometimes called Csus2) and a Cadd2? the pure C2 is a CDG triad (or chord), the C add2 is A CDEG chord. often a C2 will be played as an add9 (where the D is an octave above the root C note). The add9 helps reduce some of the dissonance that is formed from the three chromatic notes being played together.
