A beaten-up baseball hat can have character, yes. But you should still clean it. The good news is you probably already have everything you need to give it a good freshening up. Here's how. You'll need: - An old toothbrush or nail brush - Laundry detergent or dish soap - Stain remover - A bucket or basin - Something round-ish to dry the cap on The process: - Rinse out the cap with clean water to get rid of light surface gunk. - Lather a small amount of water with your soap or detergent. Scrub any obvious marks and stains with the brush using small, circular motions. - Fill your basin with soapy water. Soak the hat for around 10 minutes and then swish it around a bit. - Rinse your hat with running water, until the water runs clear. - Stuff the body of the hat with something round—like a coffee can or a bundled-up towel—so that it dries in roughly the right shape. - If you're still seeing stains, you can go back and make a paste of water and stain remover or a powdered laundry detergent that contains oxygen bleach. Apply it to the stains, and let it sit for up to five minutes before rinsing thoroughly. This advice applies to most baseball hats, but some, like vintage-style hats, should be treated differently.
