My Big Buddy by Mr. Heater is about 7 years old. I have never used a fuel filter that attaches to the regulator. The fuel line on the right side is apparently notorious for clogging up! You will have to unscrew some screws to get the plastic off and lift up on knob. It pops right off. I installed a new fuel filter onto the regulator, but it is optional. This unit has two regulators and can be used with big propane tanks or small disposable ones.
