In this YouTube#shorts video, I attempt to make poplar look like a nicer, darker hardwood. I used wood conditioner (MINWAX® PRE-STAIN WOOD CONDITIONER), dark stain (Varathane - Kona Premium Fast Dry Interior Wood Stain), and a satin oil-based topcoat (General Finishes Arm-R-Seal) to achieve a faux more affordable "walnut" like look. While poplar may not be best in most furniture builds, you can get away with it for smaller pieces or accents.
