When Trent was a small boy his mum fell on troubled times. As a result, he and his three brothers were sent to live with their father. Noel Dalton raised his boys in the outer Brisbane suburb of Bracken Ridge. They lived in a Housing Commission house with pink walls. Trent, the youngest son, was so silent his father worried there may be something seriously wrong. Trent would spend hours observing the neighbourhood, noticing "tattoos on arms and looks on people". After leaving High School he spent a year working at an electrical supply warehouse packing components into boxes. Then he decided to go to university, and followed his love of words to become an award-winning feature writer. Trent's first novel, which has been adapted for stage and screen, is partly based on his childhood.
