These sopoby solder seal connectors I got on Amazon make permanent wiring repairs a bit easier by combining the soldering and heat thinking process into one step. I’d like to keep some of these on hand in my car just in case I have to make a repair while I’m out adventuring.
I also make it so you can solder in locations where operating an soldering iron might be more difficult. 
I like to add an extra layer of adhesive lined heat shrink if I can over the top of these to really close up the repair. 
The relatively affordable, and you can easily throw a baggie of them in your glove box or toolbox for an emergency.
