Thought to have originated with the Kurds, the Tanbur, (or Tanboor) is the earliest known lute instrument, dating back over 4,000 years. Today it is played all over Iran and is considered a sacred instrument. I am a novice. If you are interested, check out the masters from Iran. A very cool, ancient instrument.
