A solution to our bay window conundrum! We needed privacy, warmth and something stylish that worked with the rest of the room. It’s such a big window that fabric is really expensive, if you have them made it’s 4 figures. And it should be! Curtain making is a skill. But I didn’t have the funds for the curtains I wanted. (quoted at £1.8k). When I was sick in bed last week (flu got me good) I was staring at our bedroom patchwork curtains and I had the idea of adjusting those curtains for the bay. Finding curtains for the simple bedroom window is easy (already solved in fact with a couple of table cloths!) I still had fabric left over from when I first made the patchwork so I was able to make 2 more panels to each curtain to add to the original curtains to make them wide enough for the bay window. I replaced the curtain tape with a larger width and added a thermal curtain liner from @dunelmuk (not an ad!); Warmth: ✔️. I also made some simple cafe curtains using my favourite cotton gauze fabric from @ebay_uk - privacy: ✔️. There is a 2 part reel further down my grid showing you exactly how I made the original patchwork curtains if you want to have a go at making some yourself. I have also made some for my sons room too. I’m fairly crap at sewing and managed it! I use the stacked coins technique and french seams. It’s a brilliant sustainable solution and a great use for old linens.
