Here’s an update on my sweet potato slips I started 18 days ago. Slips are simply the shoots that grow from sweet potatoes. In order to grow sweet potatoes as I plan to do this spring, you need to plant slips. The potting medium is a mix of potting soil and perlite. The tray is on a heat mat in a south facing window. I have two varieties, Japanese Satsuma and purple sweet potato. The shoots are about 5 inches long. I’ll remove the shoots from the sweet potatoes when they get to about 12 inches long then place them in water to develop the roots.
