Is the moon a planet? Yes! At least, according to the geophysical definition. Over the years, I've photographed the moon and spotted beautiful mountain ranges, incredible craters, and huge oceans of lava formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. The Apollo missions actually picked up thousands of "earthquakes" on the moon, called moonquakes, which tells us that the moon is geologically still alive. Also, the moon has a partially molten core, a mantle, and a crust and is spherical. So by the official geophysical definition, the moon is definitely a planet. And yes, the moon orbits the earth, so we should call it a satellite planet, or secondary planet. Unfortunately, the International Astronomical Union isn't defining satellites (moons) as planets...What do you think, is the moon a planet?
