The Trained Retrieve (what old timers then referred to as Force Fetch) is a process in which retrieving is broken down into many small steps where the dog progresses at their own pace from step to step on the table until a reliable retrieve is present. From here, the dog is taken from the table to the ground where the trainer seemingly must start over, but the steps don't take nearly as long to master.
