The judge presiding over the Karen Read case abruptly suspended a pretrial hearing Tuesday over her “grave concern” that the defense may have concealed a financial arrangement with expert witnesses whom jurors in the first trial believed were working independently.
Judge Beverly J. Cannone said from the bench Tuesday that the “implications of that information may have profound effects on this defense and defense counsel.”
Sounding perturbed and short of breath, she cut the proceedings short and scheduled another hearing for next week to address the matter.
