In order to change 3/5 to decimal form we need to divide 3 by 5. We know that since 3 is smaller than 5 we are going to end up with a number less than 1.
We can divide 3/5 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 3 by 5 we get 0.6. So:
3/5 = 0.6
0.6 is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable.
Note that 3/5 and 0.6 represent the same quantity, the are just written in different formats. 3/5 is a fraction and 0.6 is decimal.
