Comparing DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1, they're both fairly similar as both can transmit upto 8K 60Hz, 4K 120Hz without any issues. DisplayPort has a locking connector keeping it secure while HDMI is a lot more universal across nearly all devices. DisplayPort 2.1 tech is starting to roll out now which blows HDMI out of the water but isn't currently that common. The good news is that the newer standards are backwards compatible, it just means that you'll be limited to the fastest speed available on the slowest device!
