Well-maintained cast iron skillets can last a lifetime and are essentially nonstick when properly seasoned. How to clean your cast iron pan: 1. Wash by hand while still warm. 2. Immediately dry with paper towel or cloth. 3. Lightly coat pan with vegetable oil or cooking spray to help maintain the natural patina of the cast iron pan. Do NOT soak the pan or leave in the sink overnight as this will cause the cast iron pan to rust. How to Remove Food Stuck to the Cast Iron Pan 1. Boil 1/2 inch of water in the cast iron pan to loosen the stubborn food residue. 2. Rinse, pat dry, and season. 3. If food residue still remains, add kosher salt and a small amount of water and heat your pan to medium to create a paste. Scrub with a sponge using a pair of tongs or wooden spoon to remove stuck on food.
