In order to change 3/7 to decimal form we need to divide 3 by 7. We know that since 3 is smaller than 7 we are going to end up with a number less than 1.
We can divide 3/7 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 3 by 7, we get 0.428571. The 428571 keeps repeating.
So: 3/7 = 0.42857 with the 428571 repeating.
Note that 3/7 and 0.428571 (repeating) represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats.
