The block wall in this building gets two bond beams. One at 8’ and one at 16’.
We use special block like this one that gets filled with concrete to create a solid horizontal bond beam.
The plans call for one ½” rebar in each beam.
Here’s a diagram of the wall we’re building. The brown lines represent ½” rebar that are placed vertically 4 foot on center through the block cores and the horizontal lines represent the rebar in the two bond beams. I highlighted both horizontal bond beams and all the vertical cores that get filled with rebar and concrete to show how this makes a post and beam type structure to reinforce the entire wall.
We use open bottom bond beam blocks where the cores get filled.
Here’s the finished beam and one of the cores.
Since it’s not that much concrete the guy used buckets rather than paying for a pump.
You can see the concrete disappearing into one of the cores.
Once it’s all filled up, the guys level it off. Now the beam is poured and we’re ready to lay more courses of block. @hausplans
