Howler monkeys are VERY noisy; in fact, they are the loudest land mammals on Earth! They can produce calls that reach up to 140 decibels, which is comparable to a jet engine taking off!
New to our work? We run a rescue center in Costa Rica that frequently takes in orphaned and injured wildlife who have fallen victim to threats such as uninsulated power cables, domestic animal attacks, and traffic accidents. Many of the animals we receive are howler monkeys, and this video was filmed during the rehabilitation of some of these rescued monkeys.
As you can imagine, our rescue center isn’t exactly the quietest place on earth!
