The Army Combat Uniform (ACU) is a functional, ergonomic uniform worn by the U.S. Army, Air Force, Space Force, and some elements of the Coast Guard. The ACU is made of a blend of 50% nylon and 50% cotton, and is treated with insecticide to help prevent insect and tick-borne diseases. Features Composition 50% nylon, 50% cotton Treatment Permethrin insecticide to prevent insect and tick-borne diseases What it includes Jacket, trousers, patrol cap, boots, undershirts, belt, tapes, and patches How it's worn With a moisture-wicking T-shirt, black beret or patrol cap, and combat boots The ACU has been updated over the years, including the addition of buttons for the cargo pockets, a reinforced crotch, and improved attachment of the infrared tab. The ACU-Alternate (ACU-A) is a new version of the uniform that's designed to fit a wider range of body types. The Air Force and Space Force refer to the ACU as the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) Uniform.
