The first time that I saw "Wicked" live in Detroit earlier this year with one of my best girlfriends, I wept, laughed, and sobbed some more.
Seeing it with her in theaters, starring Arianna Grande and Cynthia Erivo, brought back all those memories and more. When I dragged my bemused husband with me the next day to watch it AGAIN, I found myself stuffing my sweater into my mouth to stifle emotional sobs during the powerful end-song "Defying Gravity."
Whenever I respond so strongly to a song, that's a good indication that I should make a harp cover of it!!!!
I had so much fun dressing up as Elphaba - and so much appreciation for what actors and actresses go through to get prepped, haha! (My cats were both intimidated by this strange woman with "green" skin when I came out of the bathroom!).
The lyrics to this song, which Cynthia's character "Elphaba" sings at the end, are below. For context (no spoilers!), this song is about rebelling against forces and institutions that may as well be like the immovable weight of gravity, and Elphaba declares that she is going to defy the odds and make her own path according to what SHE believes is right.
