Improvements

Change motivates. We are indeed proud of our journey as we are trying to make our Library system and services impactful and yield the desired results. The following significant milestones, no matter how small or big they are, not only showcase our journey towards improvement but also motivate us to do even better. We acknowledge the support of University administration, teaching/non-teaching staff, researchers, students and our active Library team for such improvement.

2023-24

  • Installed CC Cameras in Central Library, SOE, SOET, SOL libraries.
  • Installed five water purifiers at different sections of Central Library and branch Libraries.
  • Installed a dedicated server for Library software (Koha) and Library website.
  • Initiated stock verification of Central Library and 4 School level libraries of the University using advanced remote barcode scanners. Saved a lot of time, energy and cost for conducting stock verification.
  • Refurbished reading room of SOET Library.
  • For the first time, introduced daily-lecture series for the M.L.I.Sc. students who joined our Library under the banner of Internship Programme of DLISc, CUH.
  • Introduced three Value Added Courses for PG students.

2022-23

  • Started procuring books through GeM portal.
  • Added more number of books in foreign languages.
  • Organized 50+ Library events for the user community of the University.
  • Helped build Departmental Libraries with more books (SOL, DACE, Dept. of Physics, etc.)
  • Subscribed to more e-resources: ProjectMuse, MathSciNet, EPWRF India Time Series, Emerald, etc.)
  • Implemented “Open Access Policy of Central University of Haryana“. Perhaps our University is the first Central University to implement the said policy.
  • Monthly status report of faculty publications are being shared with all the faculty members/ authorities.
  • Monthly status report on institutional h-index is being shared with the authorities/ faculty members.
  • Monthly status report of usage statistics of subscribed e-resources is being shared with the authorities/ faculty members.
  • Intensified collecting faculty published books and added in the Library.
  • Weekly meeting of Library staff
  • Streamlined record management of No Dues Certificates being issued to our users.
  • Added more number of open access journal articles on our University’s IDR (published by the faculty).

2021-22

  • Revised the process of empanelment of book/ periodical vendors and devised proforma for Expression of Interest.
  • Streamlined stock verification process by constituting stock verification committee and devised an exclusive proforma for verifying the stock verification process.
  • Implemented 100% online payment of overdue charges.
  • Prepared an exclusive Policy on Academic Integrity and complied one of the directions/guidelines stated in UGC Regulation, 2018.
  • Streamlined Library Training/ Internship Programme for Library and Information Science students and assigned unique codes to Library Trainees and Library Internees for present/ future reference/ communication.
  • Added 25 brand new computers and they are best utilised by maintaining servers for IDR and library management software; dedicated internet facility corner; computers in stack rooms, etc.
  • Devised offer letter with terms and conditions for Library Training/Internship Programme for Library and Information Science students.
  • Shared of 49716 books to DELNET Digital Portal for 24×7 access to DELNET members.
  • Prepared theme/need based QR Code Galleries for the University authorities and Library users.
  • Initiated Library Staff Development Programme for organizing periodic training programme by best utilizing University’s experts (teachers/staff)
  • Created an appropriate online platform for internal communication among the Library administration and staff.
  • Initiated complete overhaul of Library’s website, developed creative and informative web content and launched Library’s exclusive website having more than 140+ webpages.
  • Discontinued the practice of students applying for Library membership online/offline using a fixed application form. Instead, started porting all admitted students’ details/data in our Library system (within a few seconds!).
  • Revised documentation of dispatch registers and documents by coding based on type of documents.
  • Initiated phasewise data rectification of already catalogued bibliographic data in the library management software.
  • For the second consecutive time, our Central Library bags the 3rd position as the most Cleanest Department Award among 35+ Departments/ Centres and 4 major administrative branches.
  • Sushil Kumar, Professional Assistant bags Best Performing Non-teaching Staff Award.

2020-21

  • Facilitated remote access to all campus-based subscribed e-resources using INFLIBNET’s INFEED remote access platform.
  • E-learning Resources, a separate portal was launched on CUH website by listing out all the links related to subscribed and open access e-resources.
  • Created a special Facebook page i.e. ‘Online Learning’, and updating our students/faculty regularly about e-resources available in open domain.
  • Prepared and shared openly a webliography on COVID-19 and open access resources.
  • Uploaded bulk students’ details on National Digital Library and provided access to resources of National Digital Library.
  • Created 80 new faculty accounts on URKUND, a plagiarism detection software.
  • Prepared User Guide of Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS).
  • 19 Subject Guides were prepared to help students of different subjects/departments to effectively use the Library resources.
  • Created 66 new faculty profiles on Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS).
  • Expression of Interest was sought from the nearby educational institutes to provide them access to e-books to achieve community development.
  • SOPs and Citizen Charter of the Library were prepared and shared online.
  • Started collecting institutional publications from different branches for uploading in our institutional digital repository.
  • Our Central Library bags the 3rd position as the most Cleanest Department Award among 35+ Departments/ Centres and 4 major administrative branches.
  • Initiated Joy of Giving: Book Donation Drive as a regular feature of the Library to collect old/used/new books for the Library and libraries of the nearby institutions/ organisations.
  • Established Periodical Section with reading space and a dedicated staff.
  • Introduced stock verification of all libraries.
  • Prepared and introduced SOPs (standard operating procedure) of Library.
  • Setup Library at School of Law, Academic Block-III with nearly 3000+ books.
  • Subscribed to 6654 e-books.

2019-20

  • Initiated empanelment of book vendors online.
  • Designed and developed website of SOET Library.
  • Designed and developed online user tracking system.
  • Initiated online Library membership for faculty and students.
  • Introduced gate pass system.

2018-19

  • With the aim to cater to the needs of Engineering students and faculty, a School level library i.e. SOET Library was set up at old Academic Block, CUH with 5000 books.
  • Introduced Plagiarism Verification Service using a proprietary plagiarism software.
  • Automated SOET Library with KOHA library management software.
  • Initiated showing Swayam Prabha educational channel to engineering students at SOET Library by setting a dedicated room with appropriate furniture.
  • Started availing services of in-house students in the Library under for “Earn While You Learn” scheme.
  • Designed and developed KOHA based WebOPAC for SOET library users to promote and support library reader services.
  • Reframed acquisition policy of procuring books.
  • Started uploading PhD theses on e-Shodhganga.
  • Initiated DELNET Inter Library Loan Service.
  • Conducted first two-week professional development programme for the Library staff.

2017-18

  • Shifted Central Library from old Academic Block to Academic Block IV with over 40000 books.
  • Switched to online mode of e-Granthalaya library management software from offline mode by migrating 23000 books.
  • Designed and developed WebOPAC for e-Granthalaya.
  • Initiated online cataloguing, labelling and barcoding on around 23000 books
  • Introduced barcode-based library membership cards.
  • Introduced Communication Skills and Personality Development Course for the students and research scholars of our University.
  • Started one-month Library Internship Programme for Library and Information Science students of Department of Library and Information Science, CUH.
  • For the first time, the Library was evaluated by NAAC peer team during the 1st cycle of accreditation of the University in 2017.  
  • Assistant Librarians initiated teaching in the Department of Library and information Science, CUH.
  • Initiated Empanelment of book vendors.
